Which type food grade Sodium CMC do you need ?

Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose(CMC) is made from raw material natural cellulose(refine cotton or wooden fiber). It’s very popular cellulose ether and can be used in various types of industries, like food, pharmaceutical, paper making, ceramic, detergent, textile and cosmetic industries etc. There are more than 80 types of Sodium CMC based on different purity, viscosity and D.S(Degree of Substitution) etc. And which type CMC is mostly suitable for your request ? Let’s introduce here briefly.

Q: Firstly, you need to confirm which product will you use CMC in ?

A: If you will use CMC in foods and pharmaceutical drugs, it must be high purity more than 99.5%. If used in technical industries, purity could range from 55%-99% and price is cheaper.

Q: How should I chose viscosity range ?

A: When you confirm the application, we can suggest you the suitable type viscosity. Normally, for bakery and cake, low viscosity 100-800mPa.s is ok. If you will use CMC in ketchup, mayonnaise, beverage juice and ice cream etc, it should be medium viscosity(2000-4000mPa.s) or high viscosity(5000-7000mPa.s).

Q: How does Degree of Substitution(D.S) influence CMC application ?

A: It’s very easy to determine: if you use the CMC in acid or salty foods, it’s better to chose D.S  over 0.9, otherwise, D.S 0.7-0.9 is available for your request.

Q: How about particle size ?

A: Normally, there isn’t any requirement for particle size, we will control it at 60-80mesh, but if you will use the CMC in capsule or any other products which need fine powder, we can make it at 100mesh.
