The Usage of CMC in Oilfield Industry

Petroleum/Oil plays a vital role in modern society and is indispensable in many fields, including energy, transportation, construction and materials research & development. Sodium CMC is an important raw material in oil exploitation, which can help to achieve efficient and safe exploitation, guarantee the quality of oil in the meantime.

In the drilling process, it need to configure the good mud to ensure the normal operation of drilling rig, which requires a proper viscosity, specific gravity, water loss and some other indicators. At the same time, these indicators has their own requirements to meet different regions, different depths and different mud types. Adding CMC can help to adjust these indicators, reduce the water loss, and improve work efficiency.

CMC added to mud can help to reduce water loss by creating a thin but hard, low-permeability filter cake on the drill hole wall. It also allows the rig to get a low enough initial shear force to let trapped gas out of the mud and quickly throw away debris. Mud with CMC is stable and can effectively reduce water loss even at temperatures above 150℃. In addition to this, CMC as one of good stabilizers can help prolong the stable life of drilling mud, and also resist the damage of mud and bit which is caused by various soluble salts.

In oil drilling field, sodium CMC can be used in drilling fluid, fixing fluid and fracturing fluid. In drilling fluid, it works as viscosifier, filtration reducer and rheology controller; In fixing fluid, it is used to control fluid viscosity, suspend heavy objects and avoid fluid loss; In fracturing fluid, it is used to carry stuffing and avoid fluid loss.

Requirements of CMC viscosity and degree of substitution vary in different regions, mud and drilling depths. You are welcome to consult with detailed request.
