Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose used in Detergent Industry

Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose, usually shortened as CMC, is widely used as good thickener, stabilizer, adhesive and plasticizer in detergent industry.

CMC used in Detergent Powder

Detergent grade CMC is the basic ingredient of powder detergent, especially non-phosphorus powder. As a protective colloid, CMC can prevent the dirt from re-attaching to the laundry. The principle is that the anion produced in the washing process can make the laundry surface and dirt particles negatively charged (same charge repulsion). CMC used in powder detergent usually has low viscosity. And because of its good solubility and little undissolved substances, CMC is widely used in detergent powder manufacturing.

CMC used in Liquid Detergent

Detergent grade CMC can also be added to liquid detergent, which can achieve the same effect of preventing textile fibers from reabsorbing dust. CMC used in liquid detergent generally has high viscosity. As is stored in the form of solution, it is important for liquid detergent to be uniform and stable without forming different layers. High viscosity CMC can meet the requirement as its performance is relatively stable.

CMC used in Soap

Apart from detergent powder and liquid detergent, CMC is also widely used in soap manufacturing. Adding proper amount of CMC in soap can make the soap soft and easy to be processed. As good emulsifier, CMC can make fragrance and dyes evenly distributed thus greatly improve the quality of soap.
