How to Choose Sodium CMC

Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC) can be widely used in food, detergent, painting, paper making, building and construction industries. Sodium CMC is a kind of good thickner, emulsifier, water-retention agent, gelation and film formation auxiliary. However, there are more than sixty types of Sodium CMC in the market, thus we must choose the most suitable type CMC. Here, we’ll introduce some tips for your reference.

  1. Degree of Substitution (D.S), which is the most important item for Sodium CMC performance, the higher, the better- the higher one will dissolve thoroughly and aqueous solution is more transparent. Normally, if the pH of your finished products is less than 5, the D.S of Sodium CMC should be more than 0.9-it can keep the whole system stable for a long time. If the pH of your finished products is more than 6, then the D.S should be 0.7-0.9.
  2. Viscosity Range, the viscosity of Sodium CMC is vary ide. If you have special requirements for accurate viscosity and dosage, it’s better to ask supplier to test viscosity in 2%, 4%, or 10% solution rather than 1% solution, especially for lower viscosity type Sodium CMC like FL50, Finnfix 2, Finnfix 5, etc.
  3. Production Environment, if you need Sodium CMC with good solubility performance, you can choose instant Sodium CMC or granular Sodium CMC which could dissolve faster with less dust -it is beneficial to workers’ health.

Besides, you may also need to consider the moisture, salty and environment. It’s better to choose the professional supplier of Sodium CMC. If you have any questions for Sodium CMC, please contact SINOCMC freely.
